Atlanta United fullback Greg Garza and goalkeeper Brad Guzan are on the 40-man preliminary roster for the U.S. men’s national team’s participation in the Gold Cup.
The roster must be cut to 23 players by June 27. The U.S. tied Venezuela 1-1 in a friendly on Saturday in Sandy, Utah.
Garza scored his first goal for Atlanta United in Saturday's 3-1 loss at Vancouver . He has 10 appearances with the U.S., including most recently in January. Guzan isn't eligible to play for Atlanta United until the secondary transfer window in July. He is currently with the U.S. team as it trains for upcoming World Cup qualifying games. He has 53 appearances with the U.S.
The U.S. will begin training for the Gold Cup on June 25 in Nashville. It will open the tournament against Panama June 8 in the Music City, will play Martinique on July 12 in Tampa and then Nicaragua on July 15 in Cleveland.
The U.S. is expected to advance out of the group stage in the tournament. The U.S. has won the Gold Cup five times.
