What the Falcons had to say after the 17-6 loss to the Jaguars

On the lowering of the helmet call. "I was trying to make a football player."

On the new rule. "I mean, it is what it is. We just have to keep working on it."

On his game. "After that play earlier, it was a long game. That's what I was thinking about. I was thinking about him (Lee). Hopefully, he's alright. Hopefully the X-Rays look good. Hopefully he can come back and play."

On the progress of the defense: “We still need to work. Every body needs to work. I definitely need to work on my things.”

MOHAMED SANU, wide receiver

On the offense. "We still have some things to work on. It's football. Nothing is perfect."

On his back shoulder catch. "I just reacted and stuck my hand out."

On the drop. "I have to make that catch. It was a nice throw by Matt. He put a pretty good hit on me, but I have to catch that.

GRADY JARRETT, defensive tackle  

(On second quarter sack of Jaguars QB Blake Bortles on third and 14) "We had a good game plan on that play -- me and Vic (Beasley Jr). We ended up turning it really tight and I was able to knock the lineman back far enough to knock the quarterback down. Then I had to go secure it, get on top of him to make sure he was down. It was just a good play."

(On Bortles' mobility) "He has really good athleticism. He's really fast and can squeeze through tight holes. He's definitely a guy that you have to be disciplined with in your rush lanes."

(On Jaguars offensive front) "They're a tough group. They brought on (Norwell) from Carolina. I've played him multiple times. I'm sure they're going to be a good team going forward."

(On Falcons defense) "We're not where we want to be yet. That's good because we can only get better."

BLIDI WREH-WILSON, cornerback

(On intercepting Jaguars QB Blake Bortles near the goal line) "We were in man to man, and I was watching his eyes. I was able to make a play on the ball. That was something we needed coming out of the half down."

(On the importance of the third preseason game) "Whatever my role is, I try to attack it to the best of my ability. I try to just go out there and treat every rep like it's practice. Whenever I'm on the field, I try to get the ball and attack it. I was able to get one today."

(On the chemistry of Atlanta's defense) "We play fast. We get after it and do what we do. We are an attacking, aggressive-style defense. We try to impact the ball, take shots and try to get the ball on every play."

(On preparing for the Jaguars offense and QB Blake Bortles) "There was a package for us and we saw some of the tendencies and it showed up. We were able to get a jump on some plays. Some plays went our way and some didn't. They have a good group of receivers. It's unfortunate what happened to (Marqise) Lee. I hope he's alright. But they some veteran guys, and some young guys that show some promise."

KEANU NEAL, strong safety 

(On the Jaguars offense) "They have a lot of great players. They know how to utilize the run game and play-action off it. They're a great team."

(On his first half INT) "It was a drive route. I happened to be there playing, man."

(On his anticipation of the season opener) "I'm really excited about what's ahead. We're fine-tuning and continuing to grow."

(On Falcons S Damontae Kazee and the penalty he received for the hit on Jaguars WR Marqise Lee) "It's a football play. At the end of the day, it was called. You have to think about the ref in that position. It's a bang-bang play, happening really fast. They're hit with a rule that they're still trying to adjust to. So, it's a learning process for everyone. He's had so much growth. He's comfortable out there. He's playing relentless with energy and having a good time. I'm proud of him. He's definitely made a huge jump."

TERRELL McCLAIN, defensive tackle

(On his assessment of the Jaguars) "Right now, they have a good identity. They have a really great team. They show poise and patience and great grit. They get after it every play. I have a good time playing against them."

(On the Jaguars' offensive line) "They did very well. I wish them the best and expect great things from them this season."

(On getting to the Jaguars quarterbacks) "With him (Blake Bortles) being an athletic quarterback that can run, you have to keep those types of quarterbacks contained. When you get a shot, you have to make sure you get him because the first time he sees the open pocket, he is taking off."

(On Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette) "He's a good back. He did a good job last year. He's the type of running back that you can't let him get going. Once he gets past that first level, it makes it that much harder to take him down. He's like a locomotive. Once he starts to get going, It's hard to take him down."
