Here’s what Falcons coach Dan Quinn had to say about newcomers in veteran safety Keith Tandy and linebacker Corey Nelson:
“The first thing they bring is that we wanted to make sure they had real special-teams value,” Quinn said. “To say, they have proven experience in that role in the league. Both of them passed that with flying colors. We actually followed Corey and saw him at linebacker. Defensively he fits the mold at linebacker, the speed and quickness that we like in our linebackers.
“When he became available he was certainly somebody that was on our radar right away. He’s off to a good start with us here.
“Then with Keith (Tandy) we’ve seen him play for a while and coached against him. Now to have him here, both guys are very bright, we tried to match what they’ve done in the past in their roles on special teams to things they would do here.”
