Super Bowl XLV will have a marquee matchup, one steeped in NFL tradition.

Pittsburgh and Green Bay, two clubs with rich NFL championship histories, will meet  in Dallas on Feb. 6.

The two storied franchises have accounted for 18 league titles and the Super Bowl trophy is named for Green Bay's iconic coach Vince Lombardi.

Green Bay (13-6) seeks its 13th NFL title. The Packers are 3-1 in their previous four Super Bowl appearances. They won Super Bowls I, II and XXXI, and lost Super Bowl XXXII.

The Steelers (14-4) are pursuing their seventh title overall. They are 6-1 in previous Super Bowls, with no NFL titles in the pre-Super Bowl era. They won four titles in the 1970s, and added 2005 and 2008 championships.

The Steelers held off the New York Jets 24-19 in the AFC championship game, while the Packers had to squelch a rally led by Chicago's third-string quarterback Caleb Hanie to win 21-14 and advance.

Ironically, the Atlanta Falcons, NFC South champs, started their season with a 15-9 overtime loss to Pittsburgh and had it end against Green Bay in a crushing 48-21 loss in the divisional round of the playoffs on Jan. 22.

Using a powerful rushing attack, Pittsburgh jumped out to a 24-3 halftime lead against the Jets before things got interesting at the end.

The Packers continued their march to Dallas by beating the Bears, who played most of the game without starting quarterback Jay Cutler.

Todd Collins came in, but was ineffective. Hanie, a Colorado State product, took over and led the Bears on two touchdown drives, but had a costly interception that was returned by Green Bay nose guard B.J. Raji for what turned out to be a deciding touchdown. The Packers were not in the clear until cornerback Sam Shields intercepted a Hanie pass with 37 seconds left deep in Green Bay territory.

The Packers became the 10th different NFC team to reach the Super Bowl over the last 10 seasons.

Green Bay also became the fourth team to win three consecutive road playoff games en route to the Super Bowl and the first No. 6 seed from the NFC to reach the Super Bowl. The Packers beat Philadelphia (21-16) and the Falcons (48-21) before defeating the Bears.

The Packers have four players from Georgia in linebacker Erik Walden (Dublin High School, Middle Tennessee State), defensive end Jarius Wynn (Lincoln County, Georgia), cornerback Josh Gordy (Washington County, Central Michigan) and safety Morgan Burnett (North Clayton, Georgia Tech).

The Steelers' Georgia group is lead by prolific wide receiver Hines Ward (Forest Park, Georgia). They also have running back Jonathan Dwyer (Kell High, Georgia Tech), defensive end Nick Eason (Toombs County, Clemson), linebacker Keyaron Fox (Westlake, Georgia Tech) and offensive tackle Chris Scott (Lovejoy, Tennessee).

For the second time in three years, the Falcons watched as the team that upset them in the playoffs advanced to the Super Bowl. After the 2008 regular season, Atlanta was upset by the Arizona Cardinals in the wild-card round. The Cardinals went on to make their first appearance in the Super Bowl and lost to the Steelers.
