Matt Ryan was a three-time All-League selection as quarterback of the William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia. As a high school senior he threw for more than 1,300 yards and 9 touchdowns. Ryan played football, basketball and baseball in high school.

Matt Ryan transition from his high school days to the starting quarterback of the Boston College Eagles. As a senior in 2007, Ryan was the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year and lead the conference in passing attempts, completions and touchdowns. He was a seventh leading vote-getter in the 2007 Heisman Trophy race.

In 2008, Matt Ryan made an impression at the NFL Combine where he drew comparisons to former Raiders quarterback Rich Cannon. "He is a cool field general with a great work ethic and shows some ... ability to be innovative on the field."

Matt Ryan was drafted third overall by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2008 NFL Draft. He signed a record $72 million contract with the Falcons, making him the fourth highest paid quarterback in the league before he ever threw a pass.

In 2008, Matt Ryan started the season as the Falcons starting quarterback. He led the Falcons to a playoff appearance in his first season and earned NFL Rookie of the Year honors.

In his six-year history with the Falcons, Matt Ryan has passed for 23,472 yards and is a two-time Pro Bowl selection. He surpassed Steve Bartkowski for the all time franchise leader in passing yards last season.

In 2012, Matt Ryan led the Falcons to their franchise best start of the season starting 8-0.

During the 2011 NFL lockout, Matt Ryan emerged as a team leader leading a core of Falcons players in off-season practices at parks across Atlanta.
