Matt Ryan was sacked more times in 2019 than any other time in his career.

The Falcons quarterback was sacked a career-high 48 times in 15 games in 2019. In 11 of those games Ryan was taken down multiple times. Only once did he escape a game unscathed, against Indianapolis. He was brought down a season-high nine times in the Thanksgiving Day loss to New Orleans at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

The total could have been higher. Backup Matt Schaub was sacked twice subbing in for an injured Ryan against the Seahawks in Week 8.

Ryan’s years still ranks below the franchise worst 51 sacks withstood by Steve Bartkowski during 14 games in 1983.

During Ryan’s career he has been sacked more than 40 times in a season three times. Dirk Koetter was Atlanta’s offensive coordinator in 2013 when Ryan was sacked 44 times. Steve Sarkisian ran the offense in 2018 when Ryan was tanked 42 times.

Here’s an interactive look at the total times Ryan has been sacked per game since joining the Falcons in 2008:
