Amid the flurry of preseason college football rankings coming out this month, StubHub has ranked teams based on the demand for their tickets. By that methodology, Georgia is No. 2 in the nation.
The top 10 in the ticket reseller’s third annual “Most In-Demand College Football Teams” rankings are No. 1 Michigan, No. 2 Georgia, No. 3 Texas, No. 4 Alabama, No. 5 Penn State, No. 6 Texas A&M, No. 7 Clemson, No. 8 Ohio State, No. 9 Notre Dame and No. 10 LSU.
The rankings are based on StubHub’s sales trends for the 2019 season as of this week.
Georgia moved up from No. 5 in the same rankings last year, surpassing Alabama as the most in-demand SEC team. Purchases of Georgia tickets on StubHub have more than doubled from this point last year, the company said.
StubHub said at this point its highest selling college football game for this season is LSU at Texas on Sept. 7, which has generated 68% more ticket sales than the next best seller, Notre Dame at Georgia on Sept. 21. Another secondary ticket marketplace, TickPick, recently said the Georgia-Notre Dame game is the most expensive on its site for the 2019 college season and LSU-Texas the second most expensive.
In another metric, StubHub teamed with eBay to measure online demand for team merchandise over the past year. Georgia ranked No. 3 in that category, with fans buying an average of eight UGA items per hour on eBay. That trailed Ohio State and Alabama.
