Texas State used a 9-0 run late in the second half to defeat Georgia State 86-76 on Saturday afternoon in San Marcos, Texas.

The score was tied 74-74 with 3:27 to play when the Bobcats scored the next nine points. A Kane Williams free throw ended the Panthers’ drought, but by then only 37 seconds remained on the clock, with Georgia State trailing by eight. Williams made his next free throw, and Texas State added three of its own to end the scoring with 16 seconds to play.

Williams led Georgia State (18-11, 11-7 Sun Belt) in scoring with 23 points, and he had seven rebounds and six assists. Corey Allen added 17 points for the Panthers. Eric Terry led Texas State (19-10, 12-6) with 20 points.

Georgia State shot 50 percent from the field and was 9-of-26 on 3-point shots, but the Panthers committed 12 turnovers, to only four for Texas State. The Bobcats held a 32-27 edge in rebounds.

The Panthers overcame an eight-point halftime deficit (46-38) before the Bobcats’ late run took all that back – and a little more.

Next up for Georgia State is a game against Georgia Southern at 7 p.m. Friday at the GSU Sports Arena.
