Georgia Tech observed the official start of its partnership with Adidas on Sunday by releasing a video featuring two former Yellow Jackets athletes and the familiar voice of Derrick Moore, Tech’s athlete advisor and mentor.

The day has been long awaited by Tech athletes, former athletes, alumni, coaches and fans, long underwhelmed by the athletic department’s apparel deal with Russell Athletic.

In the half-minute video, former Tech football captain KeShun Freeman and former tennis All-American Paige Hourigan were filmed working out in Bobby Dodd Stadium wearing Adidas gear. Two other former Tech athletes, Mark Pope (baseball) and Metra Walthour (basketball) were also part of the video. Pope is a graduate assistant with the baseball team. Walthour is assistant director of women’s basketball operations. There are shots of no less than 18 different pieces of Adidas gear in the 33-second video.

Adidas will ship Georgia Tech apparel to retailers beginning Monday and will be available in stores and online by mid-July. The school will reveal new team uniforms throughout the school year. A limited run of Adidas gear is available on the athletics website.

Tech baseball player Kyle McCann will become the first Yellow Jackets athlete to compete in Adidas gear Sunday night when he takes part in a home run derby in Omaha, Neb. (Site of the College World Series) The event was pushed back from Saturday because of rain. (8 p.m. ET, ESPN2)

“We’re excited to officially become a Three Stripe school on Sunday,” Georgia Tech athletic director Todd Stansbury said in a statement. “We’ve been thrilled with the partnership that we’ve forged over the last 10 months with the brilliant people at Adidas and we’re looking forward to sharing the fruits of that relationship with our student-athletes and fans. It will be transformational for Georgia Tech athletics.”
