Georgia State will reportedly hire Rick Minter as its next defensive line coach, according to Sports Illustrated.
Minter, a coaching veteran, will join the staff run by his son, Jesse Minter. Panthers coach Trent Miles hasn’t responded to a text message.
Rick Minter was recently linebackers coach for the Philadelphia Eagles from 2013-15. Before that, he was defensive coordinator at Kentucky. He has also been defensive coordinator at Ball State, Notre Dame (twice), South Carolina and Marshall. He was also head coach at Cincinnati from 1994-2003.
He would replace Tony Samuel, who left for UNLV.
The Panthers went 6-7 last season and will return nine starts on defense, including its three starters on the line. The Panthers finished in the top four in the Sun Belt in scoring defense (28.3 points per game), total defense (405.6 yards per game), rushing defense (181.4 ypg) and pass efficiency defense (120.3).
