There may be another facility change coming for the Georgia football program, this one affecting gameday.
Georgia had been planning to give the Sanford Stadium home locker rooms a much-needed renovation. It also had been planning on adding a recruiting lounge, where recruits and their parents could hang out after games and talk with coaches.
But another possibility is being bandied about: Building a new locker room on the opposite side of the stadium. That would be near the entrance the team uses on gamedays for the Dawg Walk.
“That would make a lot of sense,” coach Mark Richt said Wednesday, when asked about the possibility of that location.
The recruiting lounge could then be put adjacent to the new locker room, either next to it or on top of it. Either way, Richt said he “absolutely” would want the two next to each other.
No plans are set yet, but Richt compared the locker room question to the indoor facility, which after years of debate will finally be going next to the team’s facility.
“I think the bottom line is to have it in a spot that makes the most sense,” Richt said of the locker rooms. “It’s just like ultimately we got our indoor (facility) in the right spot. It took a little while to get it there, but we got it in the right spot. And that’s going to be the goal for anything that’s done locker room and recruiting lounge-wise at the stadium.”
