The Georgia Bureau of Investigation Medical Examiner’s Office performed an autopsy on Georgia Tech football player Brandon Adams Monday to determine the manner and cause of death. However, the office informed the Atlanta Police Department that further lab tests, including toxicology, will be needed.

According to police, Adams collapsed Saturday night at a home near Tech's campus and was taken by friends to Emory University Hospital Midtown, where he was later pronounced dead. Adams was 21.

The death came as a shock to the Yellow Jackets football team, which is preparing to begin spring practice on Tuesday.

Adams, a defensive lineman, was expected to play a significant role on the team this fall. He played in 33 games over three seasons.
