He has said he’d like to one day coach basketball at the college level, maybe even at Georgia Tech. After a weekend DUI arrest, Kenny Anderson is looking for a job sooner than he planned.
The former Tech and NBA star was let go Wednesday from his coaching job at a small, private school in south Florida, The Palm Beach Post reported. Anderson, 42, was arrested early Saturday and charged with DUI in Pembroke Pines, Fla., the newspaper reported.
It was his second arrest since being hired at the school in 2011. In December 2011, Anderson was arrested after leaving the scene of a wreck, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported. He kept his job following the incident.
But Wednesday, the athletic director of David Posnack Jewish Day School in Davie, Fla., told the Post that Anderson would not be returning.
“Coach Kenny Anderson has completed performance under his contract for the 2012-2013 school year and will not be returning for the 2013-2014 school year,” AD Danny Herz wrote in an email to the Post.
Anderson coached the Rams to 1-13 record last season, the newspaper reported.
Anderson led the Yellow Jackets to the Final Four in 1990 as a freshman point guard. He played one more year at Tech for then-coach Bobby Cremins, helping the team earn a No. 8 seed in the next NCAA tournament while averaging nearly 26 points per game. His 15-year NBA career included nine teams and a brief stop in Atlanta from 2004 to 2005.
