The Cleveland Indians will remove the Chief Wahoo logo from game jerseys and caps beginning in the 2019 season, it was announced Monday.
According to David Waldstein of the New York Times, Major League Baseball said Chief Wahoo— a cartoon depiction of a Native American that has appeared on the Indians’ jersey in some form since 1948— is not appropriate for use at games.
Chief Wahoo is expected to still be used this upcoming season.
