Former Brookwood High School pitcher and current Gwinnett Brave Lucas Sims was named the International League Pitcher of the Week for his performance during the week of April 17-23, the Gwinnett Braves announced on Monday.

In his second season with Gwinnett, Sims is 2-0 with a 2.70 ERA over three starts.

The 22-year-old Sims is the 18th pitcher in Gwinnett’s nine years as a team to win the International League Pitcher of the Week. The last Gwinnett Brave to win the honor was Williams Perez in May 2016.

Sims, from Lawrenceville, Ga., was the Atlanta Braves’ first-round pick in 2012 and became the first baseball player from Lawrenceville to play for the Gwinnett Braves.

The Gwinnett Braves’ next game is on Tuesday against the Rochester Red Wings in Rochester, NY. The game begins at 6:35 p.m. from Rochester’s Frontier Field.
