Hawks center Al Horford will have a new agent when he enters unrestricted free agency next summer.

Horford recently joined Billy Duffy of BDA Sports Management. Horford had been with the Wasserman Media Group where he worked with Arn Tellem since being the Hawks’ first-round draft pick in 2007. Tellem left the agency earlier this year to become Vice Chairman of Palace Sports and Entertainment, which owns the Pistons.

“When I signed with (Tellem) that was the guy I was going to go with,” Horford said Tuesday. “When he left, I stuck around a little bit. As the season got closer, everything got more real. Reality set in for me. When September got here, it was important for me to be with a person I feel comfortable with for next year and moving forward.”

Duffy represents many NBA players, including Horford’s former teammate at Florida Joakim Noah, Klay Thompson and Rajon Rondo.

Horford enters the final year of his contract with the Hawks. The Hawks can only offer the three-time All-Star a minimal raise on his current $12 million yearly salary in an extension. He can re-sign with the team for a substantial increase, or leave for another team, but only after becoming an unrestricted free agent.
