Braves pitching prospect Kyle Wright, a first-round draft pick last summer, was named to the U.S. roster for the July 15 All-Star Futures Game in Washington, D.C.

The former Vanderbilt star was the only player from the Braves selected to play in the game, which is held annually in conjunction with the major league All-Star game.

The Braves’ farm system has been rated by some as the best and deepest in baseball, but a couple of their top 20-year-old prospects, outfielder Ronald Acuna and pitcher Mike Soroka, already were promoted to the majors. Both played for the World team in last year’s Futures Game.

Power-hitting third-base prospect Austin Riley, who might’ve also drawn consideration, just came off the Triple-A disabled list after missing a month with a knee injury.

Wright, the fifth overall pick of the 2017 draft, is 5-7 with a 4.18 ERA in 17 starts at Double-A Mississippi. He has 89 strikeouts with 38 walks and four homers allowed in 88-1/3 innings and was dominant at times in recent weeks.

Wright is 2-0 with a 2.84 ERA in his past four starts and has 32 strikeouts and eight walks in 25-1/3 innings over that period, including 13 strikeouts in 5-2/3 innings in a June 26 game against Jacksonville.
