Here are some of the significant moves new Braves vice chairman John Schuerholz made while as general manager from October 1990 till he was named team president in November 2007.

When John Schuerholz was hired by the Braves as general manager in October 1990 the team had a solid core of young pitchers - John Smoltz, Tom Glavine, and Steve Avery - plus outfielders Ron Gant and David Justice. For nearly two decades, Schuerholz maneuvered rosters by adding and subtracting players that helped bring nearly as long a period of winning to Atlanta. Here are some of the significant moves Schuerholz made as GM from October 1990 till he was named team president in November 2007:

December 1990-January 1991: Adding to a core of position players that included Ron Gant and David Justice, John Schuerholz signed Terry Pendleton, Sid Bream and Deion Sanders as free agents. In that 1991 season, Pendleton (above) was named league MVP and the Braves won their first pennant since 1958 before losing in the World Series.

April 1, 1991: Traded Keith Morrison (minors) and Jimmy Kremers to the Montreal Expos in exchange for Boi Rodriguez (minors) and Otis Nixon (above).

Dec. 9, 1992: Signed pitcher Greg Maddux as a free agent. The 26-year-old ace of the Chicago Cubs bolstered a pitching staff that included John Smoltz and Tom Glavine. In the 1993 season, Maddux won his second of his four straight Cy Young awards.

June 3, 1993: Drafted pitcher Kevin Millwood (11th round); outfielder Jermaine Dye (17th round); and pitcher John Rocker (18th round, above) in the 1993 amateur draft.

July 1, 1993: Signed outfielder Andruw Jones as an amateur free agent. Jones won 10 Gold Gloves in 12 seasons patrolling center field for the Braves.

July 18, 1993: Traded Vince Moore (minors), Donnie Elliott and Melvin Nieves to the San Diego Padres in exchange for Fred McGriff (above)

April 6, 1995: Traded Roberto Kelly, Tony Tarasco and Esteban Yan to the Montreal Expos in exchange for Marquis Grissom (above)

June 4, 1996: Drafted Jason Marquis (35th pick, first round - above); Mark DeRosa (7th round); and Marcus Giles (53rd round) of the 1996 amateur draft.

Nov. 9, 1996: Signed shortstop Rafael Furcal as an amateur free agent. Furcal won the N.L. Rookie of the Year Award in 2000 and spent six years with the Braves.

March 25, 1997: Traded Marquis Grissom and David Justice (above) to the Cleveland Indians for Alan Embree and Kenny Lofton.

Nov. 20, 1997: Signed infielder Andres Galarraga as a free agent.

June 5, 2000: Drafted Adam Wainwright (29th pick, 1st round); Kelly Johnson (38th pick, 1at round); Blaine Boyer (3rd round); and Adam LaRoche (29th round, above) in the 2000 amateur draft.

Aug. 31, 2001: Purchased Julio Franco, 41, from Mexico City Tigers of the Mexican League. Franco would remain with Braves through the 2005 season.

Jan. 15, 2002: Traded Andrew Brown, Brian Jordan and Odalis Perez to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for outfielder Gary Sheffield (above).

June 4, 2002: Drafted Jeff Francoeur (23rd pick, 1st round - above); and Brian McCann (2nd round) of the 2002 amateur draft.

Dec. 20, 2002: Traded pitcher Kevin Millwood to the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for catcher Johnny Estrada.

June 3, 2003: Drafted Jarrod Saltalamacchia (36th pick, 1st round - above); and Jo-Jo Reyes (2nd round) of the 2003 amateur draft.

Dec. 13, 2003: Traded Ray King, Jason Marquis and Adam Wainwright to the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for J.D. Drew (above) and Eli Marrero.

Dec. 16, 2004: Traded Juan Cruz, Dan Meyer and Charles Thomas to the Oakland Athletics for pitcher Tim Hudson (above).

June 7, 2005: Drafted Joey Devine (27th pick, 1st round); Yunel Escobar (2nd round); Jordan Schafer (3rd round); Tommy Hanson (22nd round, above); and Tyler Flowers (33rd round) of the 2005 amateur draft.

Dec. 8, 2005: Traded Andy Marte to the Boston Red Sox for shortstop Edgar Renteria (above) and cash.

Dec. 19, 2005: Traded Ricardo Rodriguez (minors) to the Kansas City Royals for Matt Diaz (above).

June 6, 2006: Drafted Kris Medlen (10th round) of the 2006 amateur draft.

Dec. 7, 2006: Traded Horacio Ramirez to the Seattle Mariners and received pitcher Rafael Soriano (above).
