Hot or Not? MLB's macho mustache men

Who's the hottest baseballer among MLB's macho mustache men? We ask AJC readers.

We noticed Braves RF Jeff Francoeur, aka Frenchy, is sporting some serious scruff upon his return from that short minors stint. So we're asking you: Are major league mustaches (or beards) hot on the boys of summer or... not?

Oh, those Swingin' A's! Athletics ace Rollie Fingers had one of the swankest names - and 'staches - in the game. A true All-Star.

No other MLB team boasts as many World Series titles as the Yankees and they're no slouches in the 'stache department, either. The latest Bronx Bomber to sport winning whiskers is Jason Giambi.

But never count out the Braves, who've fielded some fine facial hair over the years. Remember John Smoltz's Fu Manchu from his closer days?

And before Smoltzie's 'stache, reliever Bruce Sutter's beard was a Braves fixture in the '80s.

Ah, the '70s. Good times, good times... unless you were in the shaving cream business. Or were marketing razors to the Yankees. Dig the swell 'staches on then-manager Billy Martin (left) and catcher Thurman Munson (right)...

... and what would that famous Reggie Jackson smile be sans shades, 'stache and swing?

Former Mets slugger Mike Piazza meshed his mustache with a mullet, to mixed reaction...

... while ex-Mets manager Bobby Valentine's 1999 mock-stache and glasses "dugout disguise" didn't impress the ump who'd tossed him from the game earlier.

Legendary closer Dennis Eckersley mastered the macho mustache look while whiffing batters. (Who loves ya, baby?)

And the late, great Willie "Pops" Stargell led the '79 Pirates to a World Series win while rocking a 'stache and grooving to the team's unofficial theme song "We Are Family."

Don't Mess With The Shooter: Closer Rod Beck sported a seriously sinister 'stache. The 1994 NL Rolaids Relief Man of the Year gave hitters in both leagues heartburn before his untimely death at age 38 in 2007.

On a much less serious note, Yankees pitcher Jose Veras tries on a Giambi-esque 'stache for size. Literally. The team handed out fake mustaches to fans as a way to spur 2008 All-Star voting for Giambi.
