Braves decide against Indian-logo cap

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Braves officials said the retro-style Indian-head logo was just one of several options they had for the design of their new spring-training and batting-practice cap, and that ultimately they decided to go instead with a familiar scripted letter A.

Others will say it was a decision made to appease those who voiced disapproval after a picture of the so-called "screaming Indian" logo cap was leaked on the Uni-Watch.com website in late December. A poll on the AJC.com Braves blog drew 4207 responses, including 2549 (61 percent) who said they hoped the Braves would bring back the logo, which was part of the team's uniform when it moved to Atlanta in 1966.

Another 22 percent of the respondents said they either were indifferent to the logo or were not offended but just didn’t like it. Nine percent of those responding to the poll said they liked it but could understand why some might be offended, and eight percent (334) said the logo was offensive and shouldn’t be brought back.

The new cap is blue and and scripted A is red with white trim.
