Fox Sports South and Fox Sports Southeast lost the centerpieces of their programming lineups when the Braves, Hawks and Atlanta United seasons were suspended because of the coronavirus pandemic. To fill some of that air time, Braves and United games from the 2019 season and Hawks games from the 2019-20 season will be rebroadcast.
Fox Sports South/Southeast senior vice president and general manager Jeff Genthner said in a statement Thursday the replays will continue until the teams resume games. He said the regional sports network hopes that showing the games again will “serve as an entertaining alternative and remind us of joyous moments that brought our community together.”
Spoiler alert: The local teams won all 16 games selected for re-air this month on Fox Sports Southeast (FSSE).
The rebroadcasts begin at 7 p.m. Thursday on FSSE with the Braves’ June 28, 2019, game against the New York Mets, featuring a Mike Soroka-Jacob deGrom pitching matchup. That’ll be followed at 10 p.m. by the Braves’ July 5 game against the Miami Marlins and at 1 a.m. by an Aug. 7 game against the Minnesota Twins.
On Saturday at 8 p.m., FSSE will re-air the Hawks’ Feb. 9 game against the New York Knicks, in which Trae Young scored 48 points. And on Sunday night, FSSE will show three Atlanta United games from last season, starting at 7 p.m. with a May match against Minnesota United in which Josef Martinez scored two goals.
Fox Sports South/Southeast announced the schedule for “encore presentations” through the rest of March and said additional rebroadcasts will be set later.
“Certainly, the health of our employees and the communities our networks serve is of paramount importance,” Genthner said. “We are monitoring the situation, and we will continue to dialogue with our partners – the leagues, teams, distributors and advertisers.”
