Blessed Trinity shortstop C.J. Abrams was selected by the San Diego Padres Monday with the sixth overall pick in the 2019 Major League Baseball draft.

Abrams, who has committed to the University of Alabama, hit .431 with three home runs, 42 runs scored and 27 RBI and helped lead Blessed Trinity to a Class AAAA semifinal finish. Abrams was the second-ranked high school senior prospect nationally, according to Baseball America and Perfect Game, and was named the Gatorade state baseball player of the year for Georgia.

"He plays fast and does everything hard," Blessed Trinity coach Andy Harlin said of Abrams. "Great first step, great transfer guy, can throw from a million different angles. Just crazy athleticism."
