Since their arrival in Atlanta in 1966, six Braves pitchers have won 20 or more games on a dozen occasions.

Throughout the 1990s the feat became commonplace, happening seven times.

It’s been almost 15 years since an Atlanta pitcher has won 20 games in a season. The closest anyone has come was Tim Hudson (17-9) in 2010.

Here’s a list of the Atlanta Braves’ 20-game winners:

• In 1979, knuckleballer Phil Niekro, at the age of 40, was the only Braves pitcher to record double-digit wins (21) for Atlanta. It was the third time (1969, 1974) in Niekro's Atlanta career that he recorded 20 or more wins in a season. Niekro lost 20 games in 44 starts (23 complete games) for a ballclub that finished the year 66-94 and 6th in the NL West. Of note, Niekro's brother, Joe, also managed 21 wins that season with the Houston Astros.

• In 1991, Tom Glavine became the first Braves pitcher since Phil Niekro in 1979 to win 20 or more games. Glavine would win 20 or more games four more times (1992, '93, '98 and 2000) with Atlanta. Glavine won his first Cy Young Award in 1991, going 20-11 with a 2.55 ERA in 34 starts (9 complete games).

•  Greg Maddux joined the Braves' pitching staff in 1993. Four starters -- Maddux, Tom Glavine, Steve Avery and John Smoltz -- were among the six NL pitchers who started 35 or 36 games. Maddux led in complete games (8). He also led the league in ERA (2.36), while Glavine tied for the league lead in wins (22). This was Maddux’s second-straight 20-win season (the previous year’s with the Chicago Cubs).

• John Smoltz holds the record for most wins by an Atlanta Braves pitcher in a season (24). In 1996, he led the staff in innings pitched (253.2), complete games (6) and strikeouts (276). Maddux and Glavine each won 15 games that year -- in which the Braves reached the World Series, losing the New York Yankees.

• In the year after John Smoltz won 24, Denny Neagle followed up with a 20-game win season of his own. Neagle was the third starter in a rotation that included three other double-digit winners -- Smoltz (15), Glavine (14) and Maddux (19). The 1997 Braves finished first in the NL East, but fell to eventual World Series winner, the Florida Marlins, in the NL Championship Series.

• The last Braves pitcher to accomplish the feat was right-hander Russ Ortiz, who in 2003 went 21-7 -- in 34 starts -- on an Atlanta team that finished first in the NL East with a 101-61 record. The other starters in the rotation included Maddux (16-11), Mike Hampton (14-8), Horacio Ramirez (12-4) and Shane Reynolds (11-9). John Smoltz had 45 saves as closer.
