Atlanta United’s Saba Lobjanidze earns MLS honor

Atlanta United’s Saba Lobjanidze was voted the MLS player of the matchday after he scored two goals in Atlanta United’s 3-1 victory over Miami on Wednesday in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

It was Lobjanidze’s first brace (two goals) for Atlanta United. He scored one with his right foot and the second with his left. He has four goals this season.

It was also the first time Lobjanidze received the award. He’s the eighth player in team history to be so honored.

Atlanta United will host Charlotte on Sunday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Lobjanidze will leave after the match to join Georgia in the European championships.

The MLS Player of the Matchday is is voted on by media and supporters in a process conducted by MLS Communications.

Slisz honored. Midfielder Bartosz Slisz was called to Poland’s national team Wednesday for the Euros. Slisz has 13 appearances with one goal for Atlanta United this season.

The tournament is scheduled to start June 14, with the championship scheduled for July 14. Georgia is in a group with Portugal, Czech Republic and Turkey. Georgia is scheduled to play Turkey on June 18, Czech Republic on June 22 and Portugal on June 26. Poland is in a group with Netherlands, France and Austria. Poland is scheduled to play Netherlands on June 16, Austria on June 21 and France on June 25.

Atlanta United is scheduled to play seven matches from June 14-July 14, when the Euros are scheduled to be played.

Cobb honored. Centerback Noah Cobb was called to the U.S. Under-19 national team for coming friendlies against Argentina on June 7 in Buenos Aires and Uruguay on June 11 in Montevideo. The matches are prep for this summer’s Under-20 CONCACAF championships.

Cobb, a Homegrown signee, has 10 appearances for Atlanta United.
