Atlanta United left starting centerback Luis Abram and starting winger Xande Silva unprotected and available for selection by San Diego in Wednesday’s expansion draft.
Abram has 41 appearances, including 27 starts, for Atlanta United. Silva has 33 appearances, including 25 starts, with four goals and six assists. Abram had guaranteed compensation of $871,888 last season, and Silva’s was $604,250, according to the MLSPA salary database.
MLS released the unprotected player list on Tuesday. Others left unprotected by the club:
-Fullback: Ronald Hernandez
-Striker: Daniel Rios
-Midfielders: Franco Ibarra, Erik Centeno, Nick Firmino
Rios’ contract with the team had expired. The club declined to pick up the contract options on Hernandez, Centeno and Firmino. Ibarra spent last season on loan.
Here’s a look at the team’s protected players:
-Goalkeepers: Brad Guzan, Josh Cohen
-Centerbacks: Stian Gregersen, Derrick Williams
-Fullbacks: Brooks Lennon, Pedro Amador
-Midfielders: Tristan Muyumba, Alexey Miranchuk, Bartosz Slisz
-Wingers: Saba Lobjanidze, Edwin Mosquera
-Striker: Jamal Thiare
Homegrown players Jay Fortune, Noah Cobb, Efrain Morales, Matthew Edwards, Adyn Torres and Luke Brennan are automatically protected. Jayden Hibbert and Ashton Gordon join the first-team on Jan. 1, 2025.
