Ronny Deila’s coaching staff at Atlanta United includes two holdovers, a player who competed the rare feat of appearing for Rangers and Celtic in Scotland and a goalkeeping coach who made more than 170 appearances as a pro.
Carl Robinson and Matt Lawrey, who were assistants under previous interim manager Rob Valentino, will continue their roles under Deila. Robinson’s career includes managing Vancouver in MLS and Newcastle and Western Sydney in Australia. Lawrey was previously an individual development coach in Atlanta United’s academy. Before that he was Academy Director.
Kenny Miller, one of five players to compete for Rangers and Celtic, has ties to Deila and Robinson. Miller served under Deila at Al Wahda in UAE. Before that, he was an assistant for Robinson at the clubs in Australia. His coaching career also includes work at Falkirk and Huddersfield Town. Miller scored 249 goals with 86 assists in 780 club appearances. His playing career also included Vancouver, Wolverhampton, Derby County, Cardiff City and Hibernian.
Elliot Parish will coach the goalkeepers. The English native also worked with Deila at Al Wahda. He previously coached at St. Johnstone in Scotland. He came up as a player in Aston Villa’s academy when Brad Guzan was a player there.
