Atlanta United President Garth Lagerwey will answer a question posed by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution each week about the team, MLS or soccer in general.

This week’s question:

Q: With the reporting of a third kit coming soon, describe the process of designing a kit with Adidas. How does the creative process unfold?

A: It’s a multiyear process that is fluid in nature, but it starts when we deliver our initial brief to Adidas that explains the kit’s story, vision, colors, etc. Adidas then evaluates that brief and within a few months comes back to us with design sketches for our review. It’s at that time where we pick the direction we want to go in and provide feedback for modifications. Around six months after that – and roughly a year out from launch – we’ll see a sample kit in person and determine what, if any, adjustments need to be made before spending the rest of our time finalizing its story, our launch plan, and other branding elements to accompany it.
