Atlanta United has acquired Brazilian midfielder Matheus Rossetto from Atletico Paranaense.
The team announced the signing on Monday. Other than the deal was completed using Targeted Allocation Money, financial terms weren’t disclosed.
Rossetto, 23, made 84 appearances since 2015 for Paranaense with five goals scored and five assists. He can play as a central midfielder, attacking midfielder or right midfielder.
Rossetto helped the club win the Copa Sudamericana in 2018.
He has a transfer value of $990,000, according to the website transfermarkt.com. The valuation should be used only as a reference. The website valued him as high as $3.3 million in 2018.
Rosetto is a two-way midfielder who is technically solid. He can shoot from distance, but also the imagination to combine well with teammates when passing in the final third.
Rossetto has faced stiff competition for playing time at Parnaense with Bruno Guimaraes, who was recently sold to Lyon in France, and Lucho Gonzalez. Rossetto made just seven appearances for the squad from March 6 until Dec. 8 across all competitions last year. There are no reports that he sustained an injury. The team may have had a younger, or better, player at the position, or it may have been because a new coach was brought in.
The Brazilian club Gremio reportedly had an interest in trying to acquire Rossetto in December. That club reportedly tried to secure Atlanta United’s Pity Martinez on a loan for the upcoming season.
Rossetto will take up one of the club’s International slots. Other international spots are occupied by Pity Martinez, Luiz Nascimento, Anton Walkes, Fernando Meza and Jake Mulraney.
