Atlanta United has acquired Manuel Castro on a six-month loan from Estudiantes in Argentina, according to a report in Argentina. Atlanta United has declined to comment. The report includes that Atlanta United has an option to extend the loan, and then an option to buy Castro.

Castro, a 24-year-old native of Uruguay, is a right midfielder or winger. He scored 17 goals in 87 appearances for Montevideo Wanderers in Uruguay.

He was acquired in January 2019 by Estudiantes, where he has three goals in 27 appearances.

Former player Leandro Gonzalez Pirez came from Estudiantes.

Atlanta United manager Frank de Boer has said several times that he has wanted another winger on the right to add competition.

Castro will take up one of the team’s International slots. Other players that occupy slots are: Pity Martinez, Matheus Rossetto, Fernando Meza, Jake Mulraney, Luiz Nascimento and Anton Walkes.
