In the seemingly never-ending cycle of soccer news/not news from South America, Atlanta United manager Gerardo Martino told a Colombian radio station on Tuesday that he has not had any discussions with the Argentina Football Association about its managerial vacancy.
The website Dirty South Soccer compiled a series of tweets that translated the interview, conducted by Colombia's Caracol Radio.
The highlights:
• Martino said he has until Oct. 1 to notify Atlanta United of his intent to extend his current contract by two years;
• As stated, he has had no contact with the AFA. Fox Sports reported that Martino had two meetings with the AFA;
• He thinks that the Argentina job is attractive, as is Colombia's.
Martino has previously declined to discuss his contract situation with Atlanta United because he said he is focusing on this season. He repeated a version of that that again on Tuesday.
Atlanta United declined to comment on the report on Tuesday. Martino is scheduled to meet with the media on Thursday to preview Saturday’s game at Colorado.
