Atlanta United has acquired winger Jake Mulraney from Hearts in Scotland.
Financial terms weren’t disclosed. The team announced the purchase Thursday.
Mulraney, a 23-year-old midfielder, is expected to add depth on the left and right sides of Atlanta United's formation as a midfielder or winger, which will be important with Tuesday's sale of Julian Gressel to D.C. United. He can also play striker.
Mulraney, a native of Ireland, has 17 appearances with one goal and two assists for Hearts in the Premiership this season. He played in 17 games in 2018-19 with two assists. In 2016-17, he played for Inverness Caledonian Thistle in Scotland’s second division where he made 26 appearances with one assist. He has also played for Dagenham and Redbridge in England’s fifth division, and Stevenage in England’s fourth division.
He has been capped by Ireland’s youth national teams 11 times.
Mulraney came up through the systems of Nottingham Forest and then Queens Park.
Along with Brad Guzan, Emerson Hyndman, Dion Pereira and Anton Walkes, Mulraney is the fifth player to be acquired by Atlanta United from a club in Great Britain in the past four seasons. Walkes came on a loan from Tottenham in Atlanta United’s first season. The club recently purchased him from Portsmouth. Pereira came from Watford on what was believed a free transfer last season. His contract recently was terminated by mutual consent.
