Atlanta United sets MLS Cup attendance record

An MLS Cup attendance record was set Saturday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The attendance was announced as 73,019 for this season’s title in the title game featuring Atlanta United and Portland.

The previous record of 61,316 was set in 2002 when New England played at the L.A. Galaxy.

During the regular season, Atlanta United led the league in average attendance (53,002), breaking the record it set last season.

Atlanta United also holds the record for single-game attendance (72,243 set against Seattle on July 15, 2018) during the regular season, playoff game (70,526 set against NYCFC on Nov. 11, 2018), as well as the U.S. Open Cup (41,012 set against Chicago on June 20, 2018).
