The Braves made their initial decision in the battle for the opening-day shortstop Monday – and it was a bit of a surprise.

The Braves optioned Vaughn Grissom and Braden Shewmake, essentially giving the job to Orlando Arcia barring a trade. Grissom and Shewmake will start at Triple-A and play shorstop and second base. The move helped the Braves keep depth on the roster.
