Editor’s note: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution produces a free Braves Report newsletter that arrives via email Monday-Friday during the baseball season. It contains links to much of the Braves content the AJC produces on a daily basis, including stories, columns, notebooks, podcasts and video. The newsletter is free. All you need to do is sign up (directions below) and it will be delivered to your inbox each morning. As a way to expand our coverage, beat reporter Justin Toscano will write a weekly column that will be included only in the Friday newsletter. It starts tomorrow. Justin explains why he wanted to expand the newsletter and what you can expect from it.
Hey there,
Welcome to Braves Dispatch, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s new Braves newsletter reported and written by yours truly.
I know you probably have questions: What is this? Why does it exist? And on and on.
I’m writing this introduction as an explainer on why I decided to create this newsletter and what you can expect from it.
This job is about serving you, the reader. And that’s one of my favorite parts of it all. But in this newsletter, I’ll be able to write with voice, as if I’m talking to you personally. I want this to feel personal. I want it to feel different than reporting on an injury or breaking down a roster move.
I want you to feel connected with my coverage in a different way than you already do.
There’s also another reason I started this.
Sometimes, I’ll sit in the press box – or, frankly, in my apartment, at a hotel, on a plane or anywhere else – thinking about my Braves coverage. I’m often pondering what I need to cover and write that day and in the future.
Here’s one common takeaway: There are just SO. MANY. TOPICS. I needed somewhere else to write about them. I don’t want to bury fun stories or nuggets in my daily notebooks.
This newsletter will help me bring you more Braves coverage. And don’t worry, I’ll continue prioritizing quality as much as quantity. (To start, this will be a weekly newsletter.)
In Braves Dispatch, I might tell you a human interest story. I can bring you Q&As with players or coaches. I could break down a player’s performance. I’ll always provide extra notes and tidbits that you can’t get anywhere else. I want it to be fun, light and informative.
I have high hopes for this newest venture.
I want it to feel like I’m talking to you.
So if you’re interested in coming along for the ride, sign up for Braves Dispatch. You won’t regret it.
