Daron "Mookie" Blaylock played 13 years in the NBA with New Jersey, Atlanta and Golden State. The onetime NBA All-Star was a defensive force on the court, but also played a role in pop culture. Here are some things you may not know about Mookie Blaylock:

Mookie Blaylock (background) was a star guard at Oklahoma and - along with Stacey King - led the Sooners to the NCAA title game in 1988 where the top-ranked Sooners lost to Kansas. He attending Midland College in Midland, Texas, before transferring to Oklahoma.

Mookie Blaylock was selected by the New Jersey Nets with the 12th overall pick of the 1989 NBA Draft. He played three season in New Jersey, scoring 2,518 points and 421 steals.

In the same year Mookie Blaylock arrived in New Jersey, the name Mookie gained national acclaim in Spike Lee's movie "Do the Right Thing." Spike Lee played the main character named Mookie Lee.

Mookie Blaylock was acquired by the Hawks - in a trade that sent Rumeal Robinson to New Jersey - prior to the 1992–93 season, where he flourished under coach Lenny Wilkens. Blaylock was an All-Star selection as a Hawk in the 93 season. Blaylock set single-season franchise records for three-pointers made (231) and attempted (623) in 1995–96.

Mookie Blaylock retired in 2002 with 11,962 points (13.5 points per game); 2,075 steals (2.3 steals per game); and 1,283 3-pointers. He remains the Hawks' all-time franchise leader in three-point field goals made (1,050), three-point field goal attempts (3,023) and steals (1,321).

Before Pearl Jam was called Pearl Jam, it was called Mookie Blaylock. The band changed its name prior to the release of its iconic first album, "Ten," a tribute to Blaylock's jersey number. Pearl Jam has become one of the most successful bands of the past 20 years.

Mookie Blaylock was sent to the Golden State Warriors in a trade that brought the 1999 10th overall draft pick Jason Terry to Atlanta. Blaylock finished off his career playing as a reserve for the Warriors. Blaylock retired from the NBA in 2002.
