If you chose Atlanta as the city in which to spend your 20s, you made the right choice. At least that’s what the experts are saying.
Travel+Leisure consulted real estate professionals from across the country and created a list of the best cities for young adults to live and play, and Atlanta was chosen as one of the top 11 cities.
Focusing on concerns like affordable housing, recreation and jobs, the experts found Atlanta to be one of the best cities for young people to find all of these things, while also serving as a great city for people to grow and raise families.
“Atlanta is the epicenter for arts, culture, sports and exceptional neighborhood amenities, including the renowned Atlanta Beltline,” Joel Perkins, a sales agent with Harry Norman, told Travel+Leisure.
The list also cited two North Carolina cities, Raleigh and Durham, as great cities for young tech professionals, calling its urban and suburban communities “desirable for those preferring less upkeep than a single-family home with outdoor space, but not a large yard.” Nashville found a spot on the list as well. Outside of its renowned music scene, local real estate professional Chris Fumia praised its “vibrant neighborhoods” with a “mix of historic charm, trendy local businesses and proximity to nightlife and dining.”
Atlanta’s arts scene, bustling culture and endless local sports teams make it a young person’s paradise. The list also celebrated the city’s growing walkability, which has been cited many times as a big selling point to young people.
In 2023, a survey taken by the National Association of Realtors found that 90% of Gen-Z and 85% of millennials are willing to pay more in a neighborhood that is walkable.
“Atlanta has made significant investments in mixed-use developments along the Beltline, expanded bike lanes throughout the city and even live-work-play communities in the suburbs,” Perkins said to Travel+Leisure, “setting it apart from other markets across the nation.”
