Season 19 of ABC’s “The Bachelorette” is underway, and a familiar face is looking for love. As reported by nurse.org, Gabby Windey previously had a career as an ICU nurse at UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora.
The 31-year-old teamed up with Rachel Recchia on July 11 for the season’s debut, though it was not Windey’s first time on the show. The former nurse made it to the final three on Clayton Echard’s season of “The Bachelor.”
The Illinois native spoke on her time working as an ICU nurse during COVID on the “Talking It Out” podcast.
“I’ve always loved being a nurse. I’m grateful to have given back,” she said. Speaking to The Athletic in 2020, Windey explained what it was like facing the pandemic within the medical field.
“We’re all leaning on each other, and it really becomes a new normal kind of fast,” she said. “All of health care is ever-changing because we’re always trying to make sure we’re doing things the best way, which comes with evidence-based practice and re-evaluating the way we’re doing things. So we are used to change. But it is hard and, of course, this is different because of the seriousness of it and how many people it’s affecting.”
According to her Bachelorette profile on ABC, Windey is “much more than meets the eye.”
“Not only is she beautiful, but she also has a lot of substance, emotional depth and a wealth of lived experiences,” the profile said. “Gabby is looking for a man with quiet confidence. She doesn’t have a physical type but says that if he doesn’t have a personality, then it’s a hard pass.
“Her ideal man will challenge her, communicate his feelings and work hard to equally carry the weight of the relationship. The one nonnegotiable for Gabby? Whatever man captures Gabby’s heart must also have room in their life for her four-legged friend because she and her goldendoodle, Leonardo, are a package deal. While Gabby would love to find a man, she isn’t the type to lose herself in a relationship. She’s hoping to find a man who will love her for the independent woman she is.”
The former Denver Broncos Cheerleader also spoke with “Good Morning America” about her multi-hyphenate lifestyle and what being a health care professional means to her.
