Dave Bautista says he’s fine, lost 75 pounds through diet and exercise

Actor who played ‘Drax the Destroyer’ goes from Hollywood big guy to just Dave

Actor and former WWE star Dave Bautista is known for playing the “big guy” in movies like “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Knock at the Cabin.”

Recently, however, fans have noticed he has slimmed down, dropping 75 pounds according to him. Bautista is still a hulking 6′6″, but his noticeable change in size worried some fans. In a recent YouTube interview, however, Bautista told fans not to worry, delving into the details of his workout plan that lost him all that weight.

In the 30-minute interview, Bautista and YouTube journalist Chris Van Vlie spoke about the WWE Hall of Fame, iconic walkout songs and Bautista’s own evolution from the WWE to Hollywood.

Why did he lose weight?

In the interview, Bautista said he decided to trim down because he had become “uncomfortably big.” He had gained weight — which meant eating mostly french fries and pancakes — for M Night Shyamalan’s 2023 horror film, “Knock at the Cabin.”

“I was just thinking, ‘I gotta get big, I gotta get big,’” Bautista told Van Vliet.

After losing some of that weight, Bautista said, he felt better physically. He also noticed this helped his acting career in ways he’d never considered, coming to the industry from the outside.

“I also noticed the more I trimmed down, the better I looked on camera, the better I looked next to other actors,” Bautista said.

He rebuffed fans worries he was in poor health.

“Because people have seen me so much bigger over the years, they think I’m like anorexic, but I’m just a large human being,” he told Van Vliet.

How did Bautista lose the weight?

For his workouts, Bautista said he trained hard. However, he dove deeper into what he has been eating.

According to Bautista, he eats about 2,500 calories a day. He told Van Vliet that for him, this is a restriction on calories, saying, “for me, it’s like nothing.”

He also credited the change to intermittent fasting, saying he hadn’t eaten yet at 1 p.m. when the interview was taking place. He also doesn’t eat up to four hours before he goes to bed.

In a 2021 interview with Men’s Health, Bautista said he follows a plant-based diet, sometimes adding fish for extra protein. He went on to say he someday hopes to go vegan.
