Former Vice President Mike Pence told reporters in Atlanta Friday that former President Donald Trump and his codefendants “deserve their day in court,” and the presumption of innocence related to the criminal indictments filed against them in Fulton County this week.

District Attorney Fani Willis is charging Trump and 18 others with conspiracy and other violations of Georgia law related to his efforts to overturn the 2020 elections here.

Pence as in Atlanta appearing at The Gathering, a GOP presidential primary event hosted by Macon-based conservative radio host Erick Erickson.

The former vice president also stated clearly that “the 2020 election was not stolen,” and said he did the right thing on January 6th, when he refused Trump’s demands to prevent Joe Biden from being certified as the winner of the 2020 election.

“I do think it’s important that, irrespective of that case or other cases going forward, that we speak the truth to the American people,” Pence said, adding later, “For my part I want the American people to know that on that fateful day, on January 6, that I did my duty. I kept my oath to the Constitution of the United States.
