Chipper Jones will make his regular-season debut in his new job as an ESPN analyst by calling games involving the team he knows best: the Braves.
Jones and play-by-play announcer Jon “Boog” Sciambi will work the Braves-Mets games on ESPN on July 24 and July 26.
The 4 p.m. game July 24, the Braves’ season opener in New York, also will be televised on Fox Sports South, with the ESPN telecast blacked out in the Atlanta market. The 7 p.m. game July 26 will air exclusively on ESPN’s “Sunday Night Baseball.”
Jones, a Hall of Famer who played for the Braves for 19 seasons, joined ESPN as an MLB game analyst in February. After the opening weekend of the abbreviated season, his main role will be on the network’s weeknight telecasts.
Jones has dabbled in broadcasting since retiring as a player after the 2012 season, including serving as a guest analyst on two ESPN games last year.
ESPN plans for its play-by-play announcers and analysts to call games at the start of the pandemic-delayed MLB season from a Bristol, Conn., studio or their homes.
