Students for Justice in Palestine at Georgia, formerly SJP at the University of Georgia, and Students for Socialism at UGA recently received official suspension and probation decisions from UGA’s University Judiciary.
The suspension and probation periods for SJP GA have been extended through spring 2026 and spring 2029, respectively. SFS has been newly suspended, effective immediately, through fall 2025 and will remain on probation through fall 2026.
SJP was initially suspended as a student organization and received their initial conduct charges following an encampment demonstration on campus on April 29, where 16 individuals were arrested.

According to the SJP Instagram post, by Aug. 28, the group had received a total of 12 conduct charges regarding three separate events, including the April demonstration. The two latest charges had been issued the previous day and were related to a rally and march on Aug. 22.
Due to the extension of SJP’s suspension as a university-affiliated organization through spring 2026, they can begin the re-registration process with the Engagement, Leadership and Service Office in summer 2026, according to the sanctions. Under suspension, the group is not allowed to conduct any activities as a UGA-affiliated entity on or off campus.
The organization’s probation period has also been extended for an additional three years beyond the suspension. The probation was enacted on Sept. 23 and will continue through spring 2029, according to the decision.
The charges against SFS, which the group argues violate state law, stem from a separate incident in April, when SFS protested Israel Fest, hosted by Hillel at UGA. SFS can begin the re-registration process with ELS in spring 2026 and would remain on probation through the following semester.
The panel stated in the decision that they hope the suspension will provide “time to reflect upon the actions and to better understand the responsibility as a university-affiliated organization to adhere to the University policy.” This suspension and probation hold the same terms as those given to SJP.

The probation decisions means that, should either organization choose to re-register, they would still remain under probation for the stated period. The separate decisions for both groups stated that this is to “hold the organization to a heightened sense of accountability and responsibility” and allow the group to “make more informed decisions about its actions and better adhere to University policy.”
Any further conduct violations while a group is on probation will lead to further suspension, and possibly expulsion, according to the decisions.
When asked for comment, UGA’s Division of Marketing & Communication shared the following statement:
“This was a conduct matter resulting from a student bringing a complaint against two student organizations. University Judiciary conducted the investigation and hearing like any other conduct matter.
These student organizations have a right to appeal the decisions to the Vice President for Student Affairs. The University will continue to enforce our policies to protect the free expression rights of all members of our community while recognizing that such activities must comply with applicable laws and policies.”
