South DeKalb has promising future
I grew up on Panthersville Road in south DeKalb County. There were small farms, dirt roads, local churches, small businesses and a cohesive community that craved improvements but lacked the cohesive political voice to make it happen.
So, 80 years later, it has a long way to go. But now it has local leaders seriously invested in making it a great place to live and work. Those government folks, located only a few miles away in Decatur, should take a good hard look and, with their help, make sure South DeKalb realizes its potential future.

Medical board has lost credibility
That the Georgia Composite Medical Board has renewed the license of Atlanta cosmetic surgeon Harvey “Chip” Cole makes one wonder what level of harm a physician might be accused of or guilty of, along with photographic evidence, to be denied a license to practice medicine.
It is beyond belief that board members actually looked at the photos published in the AJC showing the gross disfigurement of his patients and still deemed him fit to practice medicine. How many of them would let this doctor cut on themselves? But they’re allowing potential patients to subject themselves to this doctor without knowing this history. This medical board has zero credibility.

Real mission is to attack higher education
What motivates Trump to cut $400 million in federal support for Columbia University? Trump claims it is to protect Columbia’s students from antisemitism.
Trump claimed there were “fine people” on “both sides” during the 2017 Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. One side marched with Confederate and swastika flags and shouted, “Jews will not replace us.” Fine people?
Universities and colleges are sites for fact-based study of history and economics and medical and scientific research on climate change and vaccines. Trump’s crusade against campus antisemitism is a poorly disguised cover for his attack on American higher education.
Why attack it? Higher education produces results that conflict with Trump’s alternate reality, which is built from paranoid imagination, obsession with conspiracy theories and the continual manufacture of disinformation and lies fashioned to be immune to reasoning.
While Trump takes a hateful sledgehammer to America’s institutions, trying to distract us from the billionaires’ takeover, are frightened citizens supposed to automatically continue their ordinary lives?

Stop whining and produce good ideas
Since the Democrats lost the election, all I have seen is criticism of Trump and whining about the loss. You lost by being out of touch with the majority of the American people on many issues. Trump outlined what he would do, and now he is acting on it.
If the Democratic Party is serious about helping the average American, give the people some ideas they like. So far, all I have seen is craziness, such as hiding behind little paddles during a presidential address and encouraging protests that have erupted in violence at times.
I have seen firsthand how this craziness has affected the sanity of some people. My neighbor was driving her Tesla home when someone cut in front of her and tried to force her off the road. She was so scared by the incident she traded the car the next day. The irony of the incident is that she is a Democrat.
The Democratic Party is polling at a 27% approval rating, and the Democrats in Congress is even lower. If Democrats want to win another election, give the American people ideas and a platform that makes sense and stop the whining.
