Let’s do something about senseless gun tragedies
As a parent and longtime educator, I hope this year’s state legislators can set aside ongoing rivalries and old debates and prioritize public safety and gun control. I urge them to come together and support a red flag law to prevent any more mass shootings in Georgia.
The red flag law, sometimes known as the extreme risk law, allows family members, school employees and law enforcement personnel to ask a local court to determine if a person is a threat to himself or others. After a hearing, the court may order that all firearms be temporarily removed from the home and the person be prohibited from possessing guns until a mental health and/or substance abuse evaluation has been conducted. The law, which has been passed in 21 states, keeps guns out of the hands of troubled individuals and is a common sense approach to preventing senseless tragedies in our state.

‘Pathways to Coverage’ is a road not many take
According to census.gov, in 2022 the state with the lowest proportion of uninsured was Massachusetts, with less than 3%. Massachusetts has “Romney-care,” which was put in place decades ago when Mitt Romney was governor. It was the template for Obamacare. The state with the largest proportion of uninsured was Texas, about 18%. Next came Oklahoma and then Georgia. Ours was about 13%.
Since then, Gov. Brian Kemp’s “Pathways to Coverage” has been a road not much taken. By design, it excludes tens upon tens of thousands of people. So, what exactly was he bragging about in his State of the State speech?

Embarrassed by ‘wrestling’ legislators at Capitol
They say a picture is worth 1,000 words. The photo of state Sen. Colton Moore wrestling with “colleagues” outside the Georgia House chambers says everything there is to say about politics today.
Thomas Jefferson said, “We elect the government we deserve.” We’re about to get the government we elected. I don’t think we deserve it, but that’s what we elected. I hope the voters who chose the people who are now running our state and federal government are happy with their choices.
Seeing this photo disgusts me and makes me sick. I am embarrassed to be represented by such a disgusting group that supposedly is doing the “people’s business.”
Where are leaders like former President Jimmy Carter and others who have integrity and service commitment?
Pray for us.

Party loyalty required
What happened to Georgia Sen. Colton Moore is yet another example of power corrupting political leaders.
Free speech? No. Taxation without representation? Yes. Party loyalty? Absolutely required.
The people in his district should have their state tax liabilities prorated for each day/event he is not allowed to participate.
