Democracy was never at risk after all

Well, what do you know? It turns out President-elect Donald Trump isn’t the fascist dictator and “threat to democracy” Democrats have been howling about for years, at least according to former member of Congress Carolyn Bourdeaux. Her column Dec. 8 AJC column, “America will survive Trump. And so will American democracy,” presented a very logical explanation of why Trump could not take over our country as a dictator even if he wanted to.

This is all very obvious, but Democrats thought they could scare their way to the presidency by screaming, “Trump is a dictator!” ad nauseam. Of course, that’s all they had to run on because their policies are roundly rejected and their candidates are less than appealing. Thankfully, most voters saw through the ruse.

Criticism of Trump will rightly continue

It is both laughable and sad that MAGA world apologists continue to berate Democrats and the media for what MAGA perceives as these groups’ not accepting an election loss. This is coming from people whose leader orchestrated a mob attack on our Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

MAGA world should stop hounding the opposition party and the media for not bending the knee and kissing the ring. People should and will continue to criticize a man who has not yet been held accountable for the Jan. 6 events and who said in a recent press interview that members of the House Jan. 6 Select Committee should “go to jail.” Go to jail for investigating a crime? Those are the words of a wannabe autocrat, and we should all be very alert and very wary these next four years. Everyone, including MAGA world, should accept free speech and free thought! It’s the American way.
