Trump throws Ukraine under the bus

Ukraine is about to become a sacrificial lamb as a result of Donald Trump’s clear desire to endear himself to his buddy Vladimir Putin.

While Ukraine has been courageously fighting for its life to rid itself of Russian aggression, Trump is contemplating cutting off military aid to Ukraine unless President Volodymyr Zelenskyy yields to Russian demands, which are to permanently acquire the territory it has occupied and make sure Ukraine never joins NATO.

Trump will only consider military assistance if Ukraine agrees to give to the U.S. rare earth minerals it has in its country and gives in to Putin’s demands. He cares very little about the future of a democratic, peaceful country in the center of Europe that has been illegally and brutally invaded at the cost of many thousands of lives.

He clearly values his friendship with the Russian dictator and will use whatever diplomatic pressure and bullying he can to achieve his goal.

I hope the European Union has the courage and resources to stand up to this outrage and provide necessary support to Ukraine since the U.S. seems ready to throw it under the bus.

Cuts for CDC, but not UFOs? Hmmm

We are getting a better picture of Trump’s priorities in cost cutting: Major cuts to the CDC but no cuts to the Pentagon’s office investigating UFOs. Perhaps Don and Elon plan to have their Martian friends take new Cabinet positions — Oh! Now I understand where RFK Jr. came from!

GOP lawmakers have become Trump’s puppets

I appreciate Geoff Duncan’s courage and integrity to speak his mind on President Trump’s executive orders that are causing legal and economic chaos and havoc in this country. (Opinion, Feb. 17)

Duncan has distinctly separated himself from the Republican sock puppets in Congress who have looked the other way at the thoughtless and callous domestic and foreign policy decisions of the Trump administration and Elon Musk.

Simply put, the political leaders of the Republican Party and its members have decided that total fealty to Trump overrides their oath of office to obey and defend the U.S. Constitution and put our country’s welfare over party affiliation.

We can all agree that our federal government should become more efficient and root out wasteful spending, but this should not be attempted by Musk’s analogy of using a wood chipper. Congress should carefully deliberate how personnel and budget cuts should be made to governmental agencies instead of issuing hasty and ill-conceived executive orders and caving into Musk’s arbitrary and capricious whims.

Trump is stopping country from disaster

Geoff Duncan asserts that President Trump is simply “breaking glass,” not solving problems and that we need “mature-minded self-restraint” as we address the country’s ills like the spending crisis.

Let’s be clear about two things. First, the glass was already broken when Trump took office. The border was a mess, federal spending and debt were out of control, the Middle East and Europe were in chaos and government ran on DEI, among other issues. Joe Biden made the mess. Second, where has “mature-minded self-restraint” gotten us? For example, no one in D.C. does anything to address spending or debt, which flow from government waste, fraud and abuse. Rather, politicians politely stand by and watch the country sink.

Trump and Musk are taking on our problems. It’s not pretty or polite, but it’s what you need to do when the country is headed toward disaster. Waiting for bipartisan solutions is pure fantasy in today’s D.C. or simply an excuse to continue doing nothing.
