Ironic for inauguration to be on King Day
Isn’t it ironic that Donald Trump was inaugurated as the 47th president on Jan. 20, the very same day as the Martin Luther King Jr. federal holiday?
For 42 years, on the third Monday of January, we have celebrated and honored a man of integrity, love, peace and unity, which is the antithesis of Trump, who spews hate, revenge, divisiveness and violence. How ironic!

Where’s the water to support mammoth project?
While Atlanta and Savannah and the entire state of Georgia grapple with water shortages, the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners is busy approving “The Gathering” — an 18,500-seat arena, 670,000 square feet of office space, 500,000 square feet of retail space, three hotels and 1,800 apartments.
Where is the water for this behemoth supposed to come from? Forsyth County residents need accounting from the Environmental Protection Agency before such a vast project destroys the entire region.

Give disabled vets relief from property tax
As a 100% disabled veteran, I am deeply concerned about the lack of 100% property tax exemptions for disabled veterans in our state, particularly those rated as permanently and totally disabled and unable to work. It is time for our state to take meaningful action to support this deserving group of individuals.
Disabled veterans have made immense sacrifices in service to our country, often returning home with injuries and challenges that significantly impact their quality of life. Those with a permanent and total disability rating face unique financial and medical hardships, making it difficult to achieve long-term stability. Offering 100% property tax exemptions on their primary residences would provide much-needed relief and serve as a tangible acknowledgment of their service and sacrifice.
Many states have already enacted 100% property tax exemptions for permanently and totally disabled veterans, recognizing the moral obligation to support these individuals. Georgia should follow suit. Such a measure would alleviate financial burdens and honor our commitment to those who have given so much.
Beyond easing financial stress, this policy could help veterans maintain independence and stability in their communities, reducing reliance on other public assistance programs, ensuring our state remains a supportive and welcoming home for our nation’s heroes.
I urge our state lawmakers to support legislation granting 100% property tax exemptions for permanently and totally disabled veterans. This would profoundly impact countless veterans and their families, reaffirming our state’s dedication to those who have sacrificed for our freedoms.
Let’s do right by our heroes. It’s the least we can do for those who have given so much.
