Seniors ending their high school careers this spring have had to accept the reality that proms, graduations and other ceremonious senior moments will not happen due to COVID-19. One North Carolina kid decided all would not be lost for his graduating nanny.
Curtis Rogers, a 7-year-old from Raleigh, North Carolina, concocted a plan with his mom, Elissa, to put on a charming backyard prom for his nanny/babysitter Rachel Chapman, a senior at Sanderson High School. To ensure no detail was left out, Curtis even greeted his babysitter with the popular prom-posal with a sign that read:
"Mini prom is not today, but will you join me on Monday," North Carolina news station WRBL reported.
Two days after the invite, Chapman and her pint-sized date were dressed up and enjoying an evening of dancing, Chick-fil-A (her favorite food) and sparkling juice.
“It was really sweet, really thoughtful. He even remembered my favorite drink and the condiments I like at Chick-fil-A,” Chapman told the news station.
Chapman’s mom, Becky Helton Chapman, shared some of the highlights on her Facebook page.
"Curtis (and his mom) pulled off the best socially distant prom ever. Thanks, Curtis & Elissa Rogers for making my girl smile," she wrote in the post.
Chapman has worked as a nanny for the Rogers family for about a year. She described Curtis as a “fun kid.”
Curtis told WRBL he just wanted to make sure his nanny felt special despite coronavirus putting a damper on her senior year.
“It doesn’t matter what happens to you. It matters what happens to the people you love,” Curtis said.
Chapman is headed to East Carolina University in the fall to study public health.
