A 6-year-old boy was killed in a crash Thursday night after being ejected from a vehicle that lost control and rolled several times before hitting a tree, according to news reports, citing the Richmond County coroner.

Reports by WRDW CBS News 12 in Augusta say several people were involved in the crash and that some or all may have been juveniles.

The crash happened about 6:45 p.m. on Horseshoe Road near Mike Padgett Highway.

Officials have not revealed the type of vehicle nor the name and age of the driver or other occupants, who were all taken to Augusta University Medical Center. There was no word on their conditions.

Richmond County deputies responded to the scene.

The 6-year-old, who was not identified, was pronounced dead less than an hour after the crash, according to WJBF ABC News Channel 6.

An autopsy was scheduled at a Georgia Bureau of Investigation lab, according to reports.
