The New Jersey-based company, which declared bankruptcy in September as competition from Walmart Inc. and Amazon.com Inc. hurt sales, announced that Toys R Us and Babies R Us stores will shut its doors by Friday, June 29.
On the official last day of business, people flocked to Twitter to share their thoughts about the closings. Several said they were sad.
This picture has been showing up constantly in my feed and I'm not going to lie: every single time it does I feel a twinge of sadness. Bye-bye, Geoffrey the Giraffe. RIP Toys 'R Us. pic.twitter.com/Crm45RkZjK

Others reflected on their childhood. Tweeps said they looked forward to visiting the store as a kid.
Can’t believe Toys R Us as we know it goes poof today. Best memory was my dad boxing out people in the aisles at a store in 1983 to get me & my brother a Cabbage Patch Kid. pic.twitter.com/gwmRkNLmUU

The last Toys R Us stores closed today. That’s a weird sentence to type. Some of my favorite memories are the times I’d have a meltdown as a child just to make my parents take me to Toys R Us. Another chapter of childhood forever closed.
