Money magazine recently released its list of the 10 best places to go to in the United States in 2019. To determine the ranking, its experts analyzed 43,706 data points for about 300 of the most popular vacation spots in the country.

They factored in prices for roundtrip flights, hotels, vacation rentals and food using a number of sources, such as Kayak and AirDNA. They also considered the number of attractions in a city, including museums, parks and historical landmarks.

After analyzing the results, Jekyll Island took the No. 1 spot. The haven, which is about 300 miles southeast of Atlanta, was praised for its beaches, hiking trails and historic homes.

"Jekyll Island packs a lot of action into its small seven-by-two-mile border," the publication wrote. "One of the four Barrier Islands that are accessible by car, this tucked-away gem off the coast of Georgia is a favorite vacationing spot for locals that deserves a wider audience. Plus it offers the best of nearby historic Savannah (1½ hours away) and Florida beaches (one hour away).

It also received kudos for its affordability. Here’s a breakdown of the average costs:

Average airfare: $300

Average hotel night: $242

Cost of a 3-day trip for two: $1,874

Ponce Inlet, Florida, and Las Cruces, New Mexico took the second and third spots, respectively. While a three-day trip for two to the Florida destination costs about $1,481, a three-day trip to Las Cruces costs about $1,578.
